Abstract: Regarding the analysis of Calabria’s development, numerous writings have been conducted from an economic, social, anthropological, historical, and cultural perspective. The failure to achieve development stems from a complex of unresolved causes. The age-old leitmotif that blames all the region’s ills on national unity is no longer acceptable. There is a need for a change in narrative, approach, and mentality, in the awareness that Calabria, at least theoretically, possesses the prerequisites for well-being and success. And this requires not only the will and commitment of the Calabrians, but also the contribution of institutions, the banking and industrial world, schools, universities, chambers of commerce, and a whole series of serious players who care about this land. Calabria can achieve the long-desired prosperity and become that mythical promised land, bypassing all those steps that were once necessary to achieve, as the final stage, development and progress, as theorized by W. W. Rostow (1916-2003). Calabria could become a land of attraction and widespread prosperity, thanks also to new technologies. In this paper we will analyze, ideally relying on Rostow’s studies the various phases and points in which Calabria currently finds itself, and, at the same time, how to subvert and change the current situation. So, a feat that may seem arduous but not impossible.
